A Beyond The Sea Martha Sale

Beyond The Sea

Cloud9 Fabrics is going to be featured in Martha Stewart Living magazine! Their Beyond The Sea collection will be featured in the Great Finds section and the company itself will be featured in a Dreamers Into Doers highlight. The features will be in the August/September issue and will hit newsstands on July 19.

To celebrate, I think a sale is in order, don't you? For the next week, all Beyond The Sea yardage and sets are 15% off (sale ends Sunday, June 20, no coupon code needed). This way you can have your Beyond The Sea projects finished before the magazine comes out and show all you friends how you're ahead of trend of Martha ;)

Sneak Peek: My Happy Nursery from Cloud9 Fabrics

Ele-fete Sky
Cloud9 Fabrics has just released a look at their newest collection, My Happy Nursery. There has been a lot of demand for them to rerun their polka dot fabrics from My Happy Garden, so they are doing just that, but adding a few prints and colors. These fabrics are 100% organic cotton, of course, and coordinate with My Happy Garden. Do note, though, that this collection will be printed on a brighter white base cloth so it will not be an exact match to the My Happy Garden fabrics. They are also bringing back Flock in blue and pink!

I'm just dying over the ele-fete prints, are you? You'll also note the addition of pink for those looking for a more feminine look in the nursery. And, yes, they do coordinate with Forest Friends flannel as well! Look for My Happy Nursery to arrive Mid-October.

What do you think? Could you find a few things to make with some of these fabrics?

The Pinks! The Greys!

I was flipping through the new Lonny Magazine (an online design magazine) when I saw this picture of Deborah Lloyd's Highland Lake home (Deborah Lloyd is Co-President and Creative Director of Kate Spade New York, home tour starts on page 204). Seeing these colors together reminded me so much of the winning color palette of Nancy Mims' Free To Grow Summer colorway. Yes, Summer won my informal poll by a slim margin, but I think it will also be a great look for Fall (or any season). I do plan to bring in all of the colorways, but Summer will be first.

Tutorial: Lined Mini-Totes, 2 Totes from 2 Fat Quarters

Mini-Totes

Cute little totes for gifts or small items, made from 2 fat quarters of 44" wide fabric. These totes are quite easy and quick to make. Follow the picture tutorial below and let me know if you have any questions or if anything is confusing.

A few notes to start:

  • A fat quarter of 44" quilting weight cotton measures about 18" x 22"
  • I used Starburst in Pool and Starburst in Strawberry from Circa 50 by Monaluna for Birch Fabrics organic cotton fabric for the outside of my totes
  • I used Chairs and Houses from Circa 50 by Monaluna for Birch Fabrics organic cotton fabric for the lining of my totes
  • You will need to use fabric without directionality for the outside of the totes
  • You can use any directionality for the inside of the totes if you don't mind one side being "upside down". I didn't mind for mine.
  • Mini-Totes
  • The straps are made with excess fabric from each fat quarter. I used the selvedge edge of one fat quarter for the inner side of one strap. This works as a design decision with Circa 50 fabrics because the selvedge is very wide (see below). On a typical fabric, the sevedge may be smaller and will be folded into the strap.

Let's get started!
