Oh, I love this fabric!

It's hard to pinpoint a favorite sewing book... One that really inspired me this year has been "I Love Patchwork". But I have actually sewn patterns from "Handmade Beginnings", "Seams to Me" and "Weekend Sewing". I use sewing books both for inspiration and actual project guidelines/patterns.

Thanks for the giveaway!

i recently purchased the book Sashiko Zakka (http://www.etsy.com/listing/56215250/sashiko-zakka-japanese-craft-book-out-of?ga_search_query=sashiko&ga_search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_5376042) and i love it. since it's in japanese, i obviously love it for the inspiration. ha ha ha! actually, i love a lot of of the japanese pattern magazines. i find that they are not only inspirational, but the photos and drawings are enough to allow you to figure out what you need to do.

if i use a book for instruction, i need it to be clearly written with enough photos and drawings that clearly provide illustration to the text. i hate when there are instructions to do something, but the photos either do not match up or not labeled (which causes total confusion for me), or they they seem to skip a step, and "tada" you're at the end of the procedure and you're left wondering, "what? how the heck did that happen?"

if i'm not using a book for instruction, then i love looking at quality pictures of products that are like, "wow, i would've never thought to do that! and wow, i can do that!"

thanks again for the giveaway! :)

For sewing clothing, I think a book I've had for a long time by Sandra Betzina is my go-to. Foe quilting I love Kaffe for inspiration & Elizabet Harmon's new one for covering ever step in the process

I like books for both instructions and inspiration and have found both in a recent release "Rotary Cutting Revolution" by Anita Grossman Solomon. I still go to Georgia Bonesteel's old books to read about lap quilting. Thanks for this opportunity to enter this drawing. alternate email mlwright29 (at) hotmail (dot) com

"Scandinavian Needlecraft" by Clare Youngs is my newest favorite. There's something about the christmas season that brings out the latent Viking in me.

I just got dare to be square!!! I love it and I can't wait to try out some of her ideas. I mostly get books for inspiration and for fun!

I like Betz Whites books and I have used Patchwork quilts often - I really love any sewing book, the pictures, the ideas, and the fabrics all make me want to sew, sew sew.

i really like gwen marston's books...whereas she does have instructions, its not usually on how to make a quilt, but here is what i do, here is how to construct the block, now go do your own thing! i love her style! thanks at a chance at these fabulous fabrics.

My favorite sewing book is actually a quilting book - Harriet Hargrave's HEIRLOOM MACHINE QUILTING is a must have for any quilter, along with her MASTERING MACHINE APPLIQUE. Two truly great resources for anyone who loves to quilt.

Cannot go past Reader's Digest New Complete Guide to Sewing. One of the best reference books ever.

November 15, 2010 | Unregistered Commentervickilw

I have a big hardcover Reader's Digest book on sewing basics - not sure of the exact name... but it has helped me out NUMEROUS times while sewing over the years. I've probably had it for over 15 years.

I have 3 favorite books for construction. My all time favorite is still the book used in my college clothing construction classes, The Bishop Method of Clothing Construction by Edna Bishop and Marjorie Arch. I still pull it out when I have fitting or tailoring questions. Lots of pictures and diagrams to go along with the text. The book is still available at Amazon (cheap) but be prepared for dated pictures!!! I also have found Cool Couture by Kenneth King to be very helpful as well as Couture Sewing Techniques by Claire Shaeffer.
My favorite inspirational book is Twinkle Sews by Wenlan Chia. She includes a CD with printable patterns but beware of her sizing. The book is filled with cute styles for my college age daughter.

I have a sewing book from the fifties that I found whilst thrifting, it is called Odhams Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Needlecraft and has crocheted underwear and lots of aprons!! I love it ♥

I love Girly Style Wardrobe for its patterns-cute and functional all at the same time. The bonus is that my daughter completely agrees. I'm also a fan of the Built-by-Wendy series for her clothing sewing tips, and lastly, my sewing machine manual. There are times I would have quit a project without it.

Patterns/books by Citronelle ("Intemporels pour Enfants", in French), Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross and Making Leather Bags Lesson 1,2 by Umami Yoshimi Ezura (in Japanese) are the ones I'm using right this very moment. No, I cannot read French or Japanese, but they are wonderfully self explanatory and Bing Translator is a big help!.

Luv a good tut (Oh Fransson! is awesome). The web itself is so great looking for basic how to's. And there is so much inspiration in blogs that it is wonderful to just browse through blogger's fav's (Film in the Fridge, Tall Grass Studio, Comfortstitching, //Between the Lines//...)

I have Sew Serendipity & French General but have used them so far only for inspiration. I have a vintage sewing book with instructions and techniques for reference but I mainly learn new techniques as I make new individual patterns or follow tutorials online.
